Old Mother Hubbard
Saison with honey and blue hubbard squash
Celebrating the arrival of harvest time, your friendly neighborhood brewers have teamed with Allandale Farm in Brookline – Boston’s last working farm – to craft a new take on “pumpkin beer.” Brewed with a variety of pale malts, this beer also incorporates two hundred pounds of fresh-picked Blue Hubbard squash in the mash, and thirty five pounds of honey from Allandale’s beehives. Our house Belgian yeast strain, at warmer than normal fermentation temperatures, contributes a very dry palate with a natural spiciness and a warming finish. No spices were added to this beer, allowing the blue hubbards to exhibit their classic pumpkin-meets-melon flavor, and the honey to shine through in the finish with an almost citrusy sweetness. This single-batch “pumpkin” ale arrives just in time for Halloween, but will disappear before Thanksgiving. Enjoy!
