Happy Birthday to our dear friend, Suzanne Schalow, General Manager of the Cambridge Common and Lizard Lounge. Yup, she’s 40! We’ve crafted this beer in her honor, at the request of her partner in crime, Kate Baker (the Keg Shaker), and we’re damn honored to brew it! It’s a well-known fact that our Cambridge Amber is one of her favorite beers, so we decided to turn the amplifier up a bit in order to make a beer which could match the impact she’s had on the local craft beer community. Essentially doubling the malt bill of Cambrigde Amber wasn’t enough – Suzanne’s also a hophead! So we hit it aggressively with Chinook, Amarillo, Columbus, and Simcoe hops in the kettle, and dry-hopped the heck out of it with over a pound-per-barrel of even more Simcoe. The result? A deep amber, unfiltered ale with a big hop aroma, tons of citrusy hops on the palate, and just enough sweet caramel malt notes to balance this monster. Beware the 7.75«v, or you’ll understand why this beer is called Sledgehammer! Happy birthday, Suzanne, and keep livin’ the dream. We love you! Your pals, Will, Megan, Kevin, Ben, Phil, and everyone at CBC
