Seasonal Beers On Tap Now

BIG MAN ALE

A CBC favorite since 1992, our Winter seasonal beer returns to the taps with its traditionally big, robust maltiness offset by aggressive hop character. This deep copper-colored ale boasts notes of rich malt and caramel with a hint of roasted malt in the finish, plus tons of Columbus, Cascade, Centennials, and Amarillo hops to lend their citrus-spice-floral hop flavors. Drink up and be somebody!

BLUNDERBUSS Barleywine 2008

Brewed annually to massive proportions, our Winter barleywine is crafted from U.S. and Scottish malts and six hop varietals, plus a touch of local honey. 50% of this strong beer was then aged in a quartet of Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels in the now infamous CBC Barrel Cellar while the remainder saw only stainless steel. A final blend of the two yields this year’s expression of Blunderbuss. Alcohol’s fruity esters, then notes of rich caramel and sweet malt greet the nose and palate, followed by burnt sugar and toffee, vanilla, and spicy hops, and a lingering finish of spirit and oak.

Bannatyne’s SCOTCH ALE

This strong ale style comes directly from Scotland, boasting a huge, complex maltiness and very full body, which finishes with a long, herbal, hoppy dryness. Crafted from English and Scottish pale malt and roasted barley, with Fuggles hops and a touch of molasses in the kettle. Extended cold-conditioning develops intriguing flavors of caramel, toffee, and treacle to steel you against the coming Winter chill. So slip on that old kilt (wear whatever you want underneath- we’re pretty open-minded.) and enjoy!

BIÈRE DE MIEL

Brewed with local honey gathered within five miles of our Cambridge brewery by our friends, apiarists Mike Graney and Dan Geer. Fermented with our house Belgian yeast strain, it professes a complex nose and palate hinting at wildflowers, spices, and herbs, with honey and malt flavors commingling with the yeast’s phenolic spicy character. It finishes with a peppery dryness and a distinct note of fresh honey. Deep golden in color, light in body,
and super-smooth.

Darkest Night

Created in celebration of the longest night of the year, and to greet New England’s gradual awakening to longer days and diminishing cases of Seasonal Affective Disorder. Darkest Night is a rich, deep, dark beer with garnet highlights. Its aroma is a balancing act of ginger and toasty malt, supported by a more subtle contribution of cinnamon and allspice. On the palate that balancing act continues with complementary interplay between caramel and roasted malts and the aforementioned spices. Smooth in the finish and lingering softly on the palate, this unfiltered and full-bodied ale is a small-batch special brew from your friendly neighborhood brewers to be savored over the holidays.
